el gran sueño

“The B&B has five double rooms and is located in the main house, together with our living area. Each of the three self-catering suites can house two guests each, which means that, along with the hotel, we can host a maximum of 16 people in total. We always wanted to keep it small and intimate. The challenge would be trying to sell enough room nights to make the financials work. The typical Asturian tourist season is late July and August, very short because it is mainly Spanish tourists. Asturias is not well known outside of Spain.

Winter is not cold in Asturias, but we can get a lot of rain. The result is lots and lots of greenery. The region is known as green Spain. You can’t have that without rain! We knew that to make the business work we had to create the country retreat experiences and focus on foreign tourism. It would be down to us to promote the region. The British audience comes May until October so we focused our efforts on these fringe markets. It has paid dividends. We get about 80% direct bookings from people who have seen our place and really want to come stay with us. It just happens to be in Asturias. It is a record of our efforts when people arrive having done research, found us and followed us because they like what we do. We understand that the needs of the modern traveler stretch beyond a bed for the night”
