locanda al colle

“I moved back to Viareggio in 2000 and started looking for a place to buy. I looked at a few different properties but ended up renting this place as a start. A friend of mine lived here already and together we started the first stage of the B&B business with only 5 rooms, no pool, no dinners. In 2006 the opportunity to buy the other adjacent house appeared and we came up with the idea of connecting the 2 houses and bringing it back to what it ones was. The original building dates to 1760 and was sold and split in 2 properties in the 70's. Sadly, my friend passed away, and I lost ⅓ of the property to the heirs. I managed to buy it back from the family after 3 years and was then able to bring the project to its end. I brought in some friends as silent partners to help me finance the deal and the coming renovation. It took 2 years to renovate the main building and the architectural project was done hand in hand with and by architect Marco Innocenti, a friend of mine from when i lived in Viareggio. We added new rooms and enlarged some others to create more space and comfort adding private terraces and patios and reshaped the grounds. The toughest task was moving ancient olive trees to create the parking area and the pool since the land is very steep and not flat at all. The project has grown and matured with every stage and i'm glad we didn't do it all at once. Things happen and you have to learn from it and make the best of it and adapt to new situations.”
